What is the difference between the "commercial" and "residential" HCRI classes?
The "commercial" version of HCRI covers damage assessment of flat roof systems more commonly found on commercial buildings. Some examples of roofing products covered in the commercial class are: built up, modified bitumen, TPO, PVC, EPDM, SPF, metal, and vegetated roof systems.
The "residential" version of HCRI covers damage assessment of sloped roofs, more commonly found on residential houses/buildings. Some examples of roofing products covered in the residential class are: composition, wood, tile, metal, slate, and fiber cement.
What is the required experience I must have in order to qualify to attend an HCRI course?
In order to qualify for the residential HCRI course, you must have completed a minimum of 100 residential (sloped) roof inspections where you were the primary inspector, or you must have a minimum of 2 years of experience inspecting residential roofs for damage.
In order to qualify for the commercial HCRI course, you must have completed a minimum of 50 commercial (flat) roof inspections where you were the primary inspector, or you must have a minimum of 3 years experience inspecting commercial roofs for damage.
Define "inspections" in your required experience prerequisite.
Inspections can be defined as adjusted claims, roof estimates, home inspections, or damage assessments of roofs, depending on which industry you work in. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please call our offices at 800-527-0168 and ask to speak to our Education Department.
I don't have the required experience, but I would like to take the class for my basic knowledge, do you allow this?
No. You must have the required experience to attend the class.
What is the cost of HCRI?
The cost for the residential HCRI course is $899. The cost for the commercial HCRI course is $999 .If you are an insurance adjuster taking the course for credit Haag will submit your CE attendance report for a fee of $20 per state, with the exception of North Carolina where the fee is $30 per person to report.
Do you offer any industry, company or group discounts?
If you have a large group of 40+ people who you would like to send through the class, please contact our Education Department at 800-527-0168 to inquire about further discounts.
What is included in the price of my registration fee?
You will receive a full color HCRI handout with your registration feefor each class. Additional Haag publications are also available for purchase, but are not required for the class. We provide a small breakfast and afternoon snack, as well as refreshments during the days of the class. Lunch will be on your own each day.
What is your cancellation policy?
A full refund, less a $35 administration fee will be issued if you cancel more than 30 days prior to the start of the class. 50% of registration fees will be refunded to you if you cancel between 30-11 days prior to the class start date. If you cancel within 10 days of the start of the class, you will not receive a refund. We offer one complimentary transfer of HCRI programs if you notify us more than 10 days prior that you cannot make your originally scheduled dates. A $100 transfer fee is charged if you transfer within 10 days of the start of your program, or if you have already used your one complimentary transfer. If you fail to notify us of cancellation or fail to appear for any or all of the course you have registered, you will forfeit your registration fees in full.
How long does my certification last?
Your certification lasts 1 year; however you only need to take the class once every 5 years. In the "off" 4 years you will be required to renew your certification, update your contact records and pass a short on-line quiz in order to recertify.
What is the cost of to recertify?
The recertification cost annually is $100 for one certification or $150 if you are certified in commercial and residential. Every 5 years you are required to retake the class to maintain your certification, at which time you will be required to pay the full class fee to attend.
Do I have to pass a test to be certified?
Yes. A 100 question, multiple choice, open book test is given on the final day of your HCRI class. You must receive 70 or higher to pass the class/test.
Can I receive CE credit for taking these classes?
Yes. Haag is an approved provider of CE in all states that require CE for adjusters. We also have other accreditations through RCI, some Home Inspector Licensing agencies and the Johnson County (Kansas) contractor licensing board, amongst others. Call us if you have questions about your state/license requirements.
What does this HCRI certification actually certify?
Haag is certifying that you have attended the class, according to our attendance policy, and that you passed the test, which demonstrates a satisfactory comprehension of the issues and topics discussed in the class. Haag does not certify the work or actual assessments made in the field by any HCRI, unless the HCRI is an employee of Haag Engineering Co.
Where and how often do you put on the HCRI programs?
HCRI-Residential is offered up to 12 times per year and HCRI Commercial is offered up to 10 times per year. In most cases the classes start on a Tuesday at 8am and are complete by 4:30-5:00pm on Thursday. (Please see your individual session for possible exceptions to this). Can I use the HCRI logo for use in my marketing?
Yes, we allow the use of an approved version of the HCRI logo for use in your print and on-line marketing. Once certified, the HCRI will have access to all of the rules and regulations that govern the use of the HCRI logo and designation. Only HCRIs who are active and in good standing are allowed to use the HCRI logo and designation.
If I send one person to the program, can I say my company is "Haag Certified"?
Only the individual who took and passed the class may call themselves Haag Certified, and only while their certification is active. Haag does not certify companies, only individuals.
Can my certification be revoked?
Haag reserves the right to revoke any certification at any time, for any reason. Haag may revoke a certification for any of (but not limited to) the following reasons: misrepresenting your experience at the time of registration for the program, unauthorized use of Haag's corporate or HCRI logo, criminal convictions, etc.
